-         volunteer tutor in high school pilot project 

-         responsible for teaching study skills and aiding Grade 7-12 students in a wide range of academic work

-         worked 1-on-1 with Grade 12 students to strengthen essay writing skills and prepare them for the Grade 12 Provincial.

 

 

Publications

 

March 2001 - "Resurrecting Redgauntlet" only undergraduate paper selected for presentation at the NISSC graduate conference.

 

September 2001 - "Late" published in Room of One's Own literary journal.

 

May 2000 - "'Gothic Devilism!'" won first place in UBC's prize essay competition.

 

May 2000 - Placed second in ON SPEC's first annual short story competition.

 

 


Work and Volunteer Experience

 

Summer 2000 - 2001             Private Tutoring         Vancouver

 

Duties: (p/t) working one-on-one with fellow students to revise and edit papers using the Strategic Content Learning model.

 

Sept. 2000 - May 2001          Graduating Research Project

 

Writing, editing and proofreading academic essays; independent archival, historical, and literary research; data organization, collation and analysis.

 

Results: invited to present at a UBC graduate conference.   

 

Summer 1999 - 2000             UBC Housing             Vancouver

 

Aiding foreign-language guests in high-pressure environment; working in small teams to meet housekeeping deadlines and customer expectations.

 

Summer 2000                         Graduate Research Class

 

Academic writing, proofreading, and editing; archival research and analysis.

 

Results: Only undergraduate invited to participate in a research group of 9 graduate students, working with a renowned visiting professor. Was selected by professor as one of 2 candidates to present at International Conference next June.

Contacting and advising new UBC students; leading an orientation group; establishing and utilizing an email list to help students adapt to their first year of university.
